Director, Dialogue and Communications

*The position is subject to the signature of a grant agreement between a funder and Hedayah.

The Director will be responsible for several substantial communications programs and subgrants from multiple donors. The Director should primarily focus on the implementation of programs with a Countering Violent Extremism context, while ensuring timely and up to standard deliverables in a complex, sometimes sensitive and often pressured conditions. Moreover, the focus should also be on further enhancement and development of the corporate communications of Hedayah.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the further growth of the Dialogue and Communications department

  • Oversee and lead the design and development of the dialogue and communications programs and initiatives in accordance with the objectives of the organization

  • Oversee and monitor the implementation of dialogue and communications program’s work and plans to ensure successful execution and on time and up to standard deliverables with impact

  • Direct the further growth of a Dialogue and CVE Communication Program Area

  • Oversee the proper execution of the Department’s activities

  • Spearhead activities to increase the resources, capabilities, and reputation of the Dialogue and CVE Communications Department

  • Further develop the strategic relationships and partnerships with diverse government, academic, civil society, and private sector actors to engage them in Hedayah’s activities.

  • Seek and review proposals for Dialogue and Communication initiatives

  • Lead the Dialogue and Communications Team (staff members, consultants, and interns) ensuring activities are managed and directed to meet Hedayah’s strategic priorities

  • Manage the corporate communication of the Centre to successfully further raise the profile of Hedayah

  • Lead the development of policies and procedures related to dialogue and communications to effectively manage all related activities and ensure regulatory compliance and meet donor requirements and deadlines

  • Provide expert advice and guidance to support the delivery of the dialogue and communications programs and initiatives

  • Contribute to Hedayah management activities, products, and deliverables

Qualifications and Experiences

  • Master’s Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Communications or related field

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience – including 5 years of CVE-specific/relevant experience – and 3 years of managerial experience required

  • Strong experience in leading, developing and implementing complex programs and projects including but not limited to senior program manager or program director-level responsibilities

  • Experience in working in or with government entities

  • Experience in working in an international, multi-cultural working environment

  • Experience in working in or with private sector and civil society organizations, networks, etc.

  • Experience in engaging with stakeholders at senior and executive level

  • Experience in managing corporate communications

  • Experience in managing diverse teams in challenging circumstances

Key Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Fluent in English; familiarity with an additional language is a plus;

  • Excellent program management and implementation skills;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders including governments, policymakers, community leaders and actors, NGOs, practitioners, and experts;

  • Able to manage internal and external relationships with diplomacy, cultural sensitivity, and discretion;

  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure;

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite;

  • Willingness to travel, including to medium to high-risk countries.

Start Date and Package

  • Compensation commensurate with experience.

  • The recruit shall start in Abu Dhabi once the Grant Agreement comes into effect and the contract shall initially be for two years, renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
