Community Engagement

In recognition of the multi-faceted solutions to violent extremism, it is crucial to ensure the threat of violent extremism is tackled through means of a comprehensive approach. To do this, government entities must share the burden of countering violent extremism with community actors. Accordingly, Hedayah has prioritized community engagement with multiple actors among its key themes. Existing CVE efforts have begun to integrate perspectives of various local actors including youth, women, families and religious leaders, in conjunction with more traditional community policing programs. Hedayah focuses on taking these initiatives further by ensuring that local actors are well equipped with the tools and knowledge through a variety of training and funding opportunities. Additionally, the elements of community policing are also discussed in capacity building programs to ensure that necessary bridges can be built between various at-risk communities and local authorities.
