Expert Workshop on MENA Collection of Counter-Narratives for CVE

From 31 July – 02 August 2017, Hedayah, U.S. Department of State and Search for Common Ground - Morocco convened an expert workshop on “Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Collection of Counter-Narratives for Countering Violent Extremism (CVE)” in Marrakech, Morocco. The participants of the workshop included 16 experts from eight different countries from Algeria, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Kingdom and United States of America. Experts included representation from NGOs, religious leaders, think tanks, academics, researchers, policymakers, and private sector and specialized CVE consultancies.

The workshop will support the process of developing a new collection for the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region – a regional collection of counter-narratives against Daesh to be made available in Hedayah’s Counter-Narrative Library. During the workshop, discussions drew upon the experience, diverse regional practices and recommendations from experts in order to identify and amplify existing counter-narratives and relevant case studies in English and Arabic, specifically focused on countering the messages of Daesh.
